Verification for the
General Public
This page is for individuals of the general public who wish to verify an NP’s certification status.
Ways to Verify that your NP is Certified
Ask your NP or the NP’s employer for one of the following:
- NP certificate
- NP certification wallet card
- Primary Source Verification
NPs certified by NPCB are issued a certificate and wallet card at the time of initial certification and again every 5 years when the certification is renewed. The NP can also access his/her certification wallet card from the NPCB website in My Online Profile.
A Primary Source Verification is typically purchased by the NP’s employer at the time of initial employment. Each of the three verification mechanisms contains the NP’s name, area of certification, certification number, and the 5-year certification period.
Certification Documents & Verification
- Nurse Practitioners board certified by NPCB are issued a certificate and wallet card at the time of initial certification and again every 5 years when the certification is renewed. The NP can also access his/her certification wallet card from the NPCB website in My Online Profile.
- Primary Source Verification must be purchased from NPCB and must have consent from the certified nurse practitioner. License status of nurse practitioners can typically be obtained from the state board of nursing or from nursys.
